Lauren Gargarella

Night

As the day moves from selfhood into night
breathing warm breaths full and fiery

I ask you how a movement into calm
can rage so fitful, frank and boding

“Radical self care” you say with a smile,
white teeth yellowed by the sun’s orange hues

You launch into how nature supports itself
because it holds no obligations

Except those which are inevitable

I lean my head into your shoulder
You wrap your arm around me

We move into the dark
